Jwan Abdo is a young director born in Aleppo, originally from Afrin. He began his filmmaking journey by attempting to create a short film in Aleppo using his phone camera. After the Syrian conflict, he emigrated with his family to Istanbul, where he entered the world of cinema with his first film, Camera Boy, a dramatic documentary that won numerous awards at film festivals.
Jwan continued to work on short films in Istanbul, and at the end of 2017, he moved to Germany to pursue his filmmaking career. There, he directed his first film, Parallelism, in Berlin, which premiered at Babylon Cinema and received several international awards.
In 2021, he directed his second film, Mirrors of Memory. After a two-year gap, the young director Jwan Abdo began working on his third short film, which is being filmed between Kurdistan and Germany. The film emphasizes the relationship between a mother, symbolizing the homeland, and her son, symbolizing migrants.
