Issa Omran

Issa Omran is an independent Syrian filmmaker and screenwriter recognized as one of the early pioneers of short films shot using mobile-phone cameras within the Arab independent cinema scene.

He became known for his experimental and independent approach to filmmaking, focusing on low-budget digital cinema and human-centered storytelling outside traditional production systems.

In 2007, he directed and shot the short film The Castle, considered among the earliest short films in the world created entirely using a mobile-phone camera, reflecting an early exploration of alternative cinema and portable visual storytelling.

Over the years, he wrote and directed several short films and founded the platform B_ART Cinema, dedicated to supporting independent cinema and short-film culture through alternative cinematic initiatives and digital competitions.

His artistic approach reflects a strong belief in cinema as an accessible and independent art form, relying on simple yet experimental visual language beyond conventional production structures.

At the 1st edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2020, Issa Omran participated as a member of the Jury Committee, contributing a perspective shaped by independent cinema and alternative digital filmmaking.
