Adalet R. Garmiany is a Kurdish filmmaker, writer, artist, curator, and cultural strategist whose work exists at the intersection of cinema, contemporary art, documentary practice, and cultural engagement within conflict and post-conflict societies.

Over the past twenty-five years, he has developed an extensive body of experience working across the fields of cinema, visual arts, cultural production, human rights, and independent artistic initiatives throughout the Middle East and internationally.

He is the founding director of ArtRole, one of the leading independent cultural and artistic platforms in Kurdistan and Iraq, through which he contributed to projects connecting cinema, visual arts, education, and community-based cultural initiatives, with a particular focus on regions shaped by war, displacement, collective trauma, and political transformation.

Garmiany’s artistic and cinematic approach blends documentary sensitivity with contemporary visual language and human-centered storytelling, often exploring questions of identity, collective memory, freedom, migration, and the role of art within fragile and transforming societies.

Alongside his work as filmmaker and curator, he served as consultant and collaborator on projects related to the role of culture and art in conflict and post-conflict zones, working with NGOs, educational institutions, human rights organizations, and international cultural platforms across Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.

His practice is distinguished by its fusion of cinematic observation, visual experimentation, and intercultural dialogue, where cinema and art become spaces for reflection on humanity, justice, memory, and social transformation.

Through documentaries, exhibitions, cultural initiatives, and international collaborations, Garmiany established a creative presence closely connected to Kurdish cultural identity while maintaining a globally engaged artistic perspective.

At the 6th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2025, Adalet R. Garmiany serves as a member of the International Jury, contributing a perspective shaped by documentary cinema, contemporary art, cultural dialogue, and independent artistic practice.
