Lorîna Dayîkê

Overview

Lorîna Dayîkê is a Kurdish short film that approaches displacement, loss, and collective memory through the emotional perspective of mothers affected by war and forced migration during the final days of Afrin before 2018.

Blending documentary realism with poetic visual observation, the film follows fragments of human experience shaped by separation, exile, and emotional rupture, where personal grief gradually transforms into a collective testimony of loss and survival.

Rather than relying on direct political discourse, the film builds its emotional impact through faces, silence, landscape, and everyday moments marked by absence and uncertainty.

Its cinematic language is grounded in realism and emotional restraint, allowing the atmosphere of displacement itself to become the central emotional force within the narrative.

The film attracted attention within independent Kurdish cinema platforms for its human-centered portrayal of memory, exile, and maternal grief during moments of conflict and forced departure.

At the 1st edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2020, Lorîna Dayîkê received the Special Topic Film Award in recognition of its humanistic cinematic treatment of displacement, memory, and the emotional consequences of war.
