Award Rationale
Marta Sutor receives the Best Acting award for carrying the emotional architecture of CONNECTION through a sustained and demanding performance. Her portrayal gives Magda a convincing inner life beneath the character’s outward confidence and apparently carefree existence.
The film’s extended central telephone sequence requires unusual precision from its performer, particularly because the other participant remains physically absent. Through attentive listening, vocal control, silence, gesture, and subtle changes in expression, Sutor creates the presence of an unseen dramatic partner and allows the emotional tension to grow within a single performance space.
Her work gradually reveals the distance between Magda’s social persona and her profound need for connection. With sensitivity and commitment, Marta Sutor turns an intimate encounter into the emotional centre of the film and gives CONNECTION its human force.
Synopsis
Magda appears to lead a carefree life marked by alcohol, entertainment, and a wide circle of friends. Yet these relationships remain shallow, and she feels little closeness or understanding in her relationship with her mother. She attempts to silence this emotional emptiness through drugs and constant distraction.
Everything changes when a telephone call brings her into contact with a man who is planning to take his own life.
