Yamen Maghribi is a Syrian filmmaker and journalist whose artistic journey moves between documentary cinema, short films, and visual journalism, combining directing, storytelling, and socially engaged visual narratives connected to contemporary Syrian realities and human experiences.
He graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in Cairo – Academy of Arts, one of the Arab world’s leading cinematic institutions, where he developed his interest in visual language, realistic storytelling, and cinematic image construction through an approach that combines journalistic observation with artistic expression.
Since beginning his professional career in 2013, Maghribi has directed more than 13 films across documentary and short film formats, focusing on human-centered stories, everyday details, and characters shaped by displacement, conflict, and social transformation.
His cinematic approach is characterized by visual realism and intimate storytelling, often blending journalistic sensitivity with cinematic rhythm and emotional observation. His films frequently focus on people rather than spectacle, approaching reality through quiet human details and observational storytelling.
Alongside his filmmaking practice, he continued working in journalism and visual media, contributing to reports and projects connected to documentary storytelling and human-centered narratives, which further shaped his cinematic perspective toward socially grounded films.
At the 6th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2025, Yamen Maghribi serves as a member of the Selection & Preliminary Evaluation Committee, contributing a perspective shaped by both cinematic practice and visual journalism.
