Modar Ramadan is a Syrian actor, director, and theater practitioner born in Aleppo in 1986, whose artistic journey moves between cinema, theater, and television across Syria and Germany. His work is closely connected to performance, visual storytelling, and contemporary theatrical expression shaped by migration and intercultural experiences.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theater Studies from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus, and later completed a Master’s degree in Theater Sciences at the Free University of Berlin in 2023. He is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
Ramadan participated in numerous theatrical, television, and cinematic productions as both actor and director. Among his recent cinematic appearances is his participation in the film The Light directed by Tom Tykwer. He also collaborated with director Christiane Ziesch for the German theater company Theater der Sturm in Hamburg in productions including New Land and Always More.
His screen work includes participation in several films and television series, among them the series The Refused directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, as well as leading roles in On the Other Side and Caravan directed by Tarek Shayan. He also appeared in Ghost Trail directed by Jonathan Millet.
In recent years, Ramadan’s artistic presence extended to major international cinema platforms, including participation in the opening of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in 2025, alongside his participation in the Cannes Film Festival 2024.

At the 6th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2025, Modar Ramadan serves as a member of the Selection & Preliminary Evaluation Committee, contributing a perspective shaped by cinema, theater, and performance arts.
