Mervat Shehadeh is a Kurdish-Syrian journalist, writer, and editor based in Germany whose professional journey is closely connected to cultural journalism, humanitarian storytelling, and social issues related to migration, identity, and diaspora communities.
She studied Journalism at Damascus University before beginning her work in written media and cultural reporting, developing her experience across journalistic writing, social commentary, and human-centered storytelling within Arabic and multilingual media environments.
Over the years, she contributed articles, reports, and cultural texts to several newspapers and magazines, including:
in addition to contributions to multiple Arabic and German digital publications and independent media platforms.
Her work later expanded toward journalism connected to Syrian communities in Europe, focusing on migration, integration, identity, and everyday social experiences through a narrative style grounded in human detail and cultural observation.
She also worked with Estebad Magazine, published in both Arabic and German, alongside her contributions to Al Mohageroon Alaan platform, within a media experience combining cultural journalism with social documentation and contemporary diaspora narratives.
Her journalistic language reflects a strong interest in human stories, women’s perspectives, memory, and cultural identity, often approaching social realities through a documentary-oriented sensibility and realistic narrative tone.
At the 4th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2023, Mervat Shehadeh participated as a member of the Documentary Films Selection Committee, contributing a perspective shaped by cultural journalism, human storytelling, and documentary-oriented narrative approaches.
