Berivan Alothman is a Kurdish-Syrian filmmaker, producer, and cinematographer based in the United States. Her work reflects a new generation of independent filmmakers combining directing, production, and visual storytelling within a contemporary cinematic approach focused on human-centered narratives and visual expression.
She studied Television and Film Arts at Buffalo State University in New York within one of the university’s selective film programs, where she developed her experience across directing, producing, editing, and field production.
Alongside her academic work, she participated in several film and media productions in Buffalo and New York, including her work with Buffalo Toronto Public Media / WNED, where she contributed to video production, post-production coordination, editing processes, and motion graphics development.
She also worked within independent American film productions and participated in different behind-the-scenes production departments, gaining practical experience in contemporary film production environments.
In parallel with her production work, she directed and produced independent short films through her own projects, focusing on visual storytelling, emotional detail, and contemporary cinematic language shaped by independent filmmaking practices.
At the 4th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2023, Berivan Alothman participated as a member of the Narrative Films Selection Committee, representing a new generation of filmmakers working between academic cinema and practical visual production.
