Jawad Murad is a Syrian cartoonist, animation director, and visual artist based in Liège, Belgium. He graduated in Archaeology from Damascus University in 2007 and also studied Fine Arts at the Adham Ismail Center for Fine Arts, developing an artistic career across caricature, animation, character design, and storyboarding.
He has worked with several television channels and animation studios, including Spacetoon in Damascus, before directing children’s animation at Zaro TV in Erbil and later working as Animation Director and Storyboard Artist for VIN Channel. His professional experience also includes caricature work for Al Mada TV, Samarra Channel, and several media platforms.
His work has also extended into artistic and humanitarian projects with international organizations, producing illustrations, awareness campaigns, and animation projects for organizations including Amnesty International, UNICEF, UNESCO, ACTED, TDH, and NRC. He also led comics workshops in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in displacement camps in Mosul.
Murad has a long-standing practice in caricature, with solo exhibitions dating back to the late 1990s and participation in group exhibitions across Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Türkiye, Tokyo, Amsterdam, London, and Berlin.
His artistic practice brings together caricature, animation, visual storytelling, and socially engaged expression, supported by extensive experience in movement, character design, and image construction.
Jawad Murad has been associated with the Kobani International Film Festival since its 4th edition in 2023, serving across multiple editions on the Animation Films Selection Committee and developing continuous experience in viewing and evaluating animated works.
At the 7th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2026, Jawad Murad continues his role as a Selection Committee Member – Animation Films Section, contributing his experience in animation direction, caricature, storyboarding, and visual arts.
