The Kobani International Film Festival invites filmmakers from around the world to submit short films to its official competition. All submissions are governed by the terms and conditions outlined in this document. Submission of a film constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these regulations.
Article 1:

Participating Films
]
- The festival accepts short fiction, documentary, and animated films with a maximum duration of 30 minutes, including opening and closing credits.
- Participants may submit more than one film, provided that each submission independently meets all eligibility and submission requirements.
- Films produced in 2024, 2025, and 2026 are eligible for submission.
- Films must be submitted in their original language with English subtitles, unless the original language of the film is English.
- Submitted films must be of adequate screening quality in both image and sound. The festival is not responsible for technical issues resulting from the submitted materials.
- Officially selected films must provide a screening copy in DCP format or a high-quality digital file, in accordance with the festival’s technical requirements.
- The submitted film must be a standalone work and not an excerpt from a feature film or a television series.
- Films previously submitted to or screened at previous editions of the Kobani International Film Festival are not eligible for resubmission.
- The following promotional materials must be attached to the submission: a trailer, an official poster, and three high-resolution still images for publicity purposes.
- The submission deadline is June 1, 2026. Entries submitted after this date will not be considered.
- By submitting the entry form, participants grant the festival the right to screen the film as part of its official program.
- Participants may opt in or opt out of online screening through the submission form. If agreed, the film may be screened on the festival’s official platforms for a limited period not exceeding 7 days.
- The festival reserves the right to reject any submission that does not meet the eligibility criteria, without providing reasons for such decisions.
- Films may not be withdrawn from the festival after their official selection has been announced.
- Films will be classified as animation when they primarily rely on animation techniques, including but not limited to traditional animation, digital animation, stop-motion, or other animation methods.
- Documentary films are defined as non-fiction works that present a creative treatment of actuality.
Article 2:
Rights and Ownership
- The participant confirms that they hold all necessary rights to the submitted film and materials, or are duly authorized to submit them, and grants the Kobani International Film Festival the right to screen the film in accordance with these regulations.
- The festival retains an archival copy of the film for non-commercial purposes only. All rights remain with the film’s rights holder.
- The festival reserves the right to use excerpts from the film, as well as submitted promotional materials, for publicity and promotional purposes across all media, without financial obligation to the participant
- Award winners receive the "Free Woman" statue as an official prize. If the award is offered for sale or transferred, the festival retains the right to reclaim it for a symbolic amount of one US dollar. This condition also applies to the recipient’s heirs.
Article 3:
Acceptance and Agreement
- By submitting a film, the participant agrees to all terms and conditions outlined in this document.
- The participant agrees that the festival shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or technical issue arising from participation, and waives any claims against the festival in this regard.
- The festival reserves the right to reject any submission that does not meet the specified requirements.
- These terms and conditions form an integral part of the submission, and all entries are subject to these regulations.
Article 4:

Festival Policy

- The festival reserves the right to announce the films selected for its official program.
- The festival reserves the right to provide submitted films to selection and jury committees for evaluation purposes.
- The festival reserves the right to screen selected films to the public as part of its official program during the festival.
- The festival reserves the right to screen each film once or more as part of its official program.
- The festival reserves the right to use excerpts from the films for promotional and media purposes.
- The festival reserves the right to add subtitles in other languages for screening purposes only, without altering the film.
- The festival is not obliged to provide reasons for its selection decisions.
- The official program will be announced in mid-August of the festival year.
- The festival reserves the right to determine and modify screening schedules within its program.
Article 5:
Registration
- Submissions must be made through the official entry form within the specified submission period.
Article 6:
Provisions
- The festival reserves the right to disqualify any film that violates these regulations without any liability.
Article 7:
Censorship
- The festival shall not edit, modify, or alter any film without prior written consent from the rights holder.
