Anas Ihsan Jassim Almusawi is an Iraqi animation filmmaker and director based in Baghdad, with around eighteen years of professional experience in animation, advertising, cinema, and television. His practice combines directing, animation production, and contemporary visual technologies.
Throughout his career, he has worked on twenty-four short films, contributing through directing, animation, and collaborations with filmmakers from Iraq and abroad. Among his notable works is the twenty-minute film Gilgamesh the Great, as well as The Enchanted, which he describes as the first locally produced Iraqi animated feature film. He has also produced more than two hundred minutes of animation for television and advertising.
Alongside his production work, Almusawi authored a specialized book explaining animation techniques and their development, and has written technical articles for Arab and local magazines, newspapers, and websites, combining artistic practice with the transfer of professional knowledge.
He founded Golden Gate Studio for Artistic Production, where he serves as studio director. His professional activities also include involvement with the Iraqi Artists Syndicate, the Iraqi Designers Association, the Babylon International Film Festival, and the Kirkuk Film Festival, as well as serving on juries at several Iraqi and Arab film festivals.
His technical experience spans 2D and 3D animation, digital design, motion graphics, visual effects, character creation, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies within visual production.
At the 7th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2026, Anas Almusawi serves as a Selection Committee Member – Animation Films Section, contributing his extensive experience in animation filmmaking, directing, and visual technologies.
