Award: Best Cinematography Award – presented to JAB at the 5th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2024 (Taha Karimi Edition)
Film Synopsis:
Fiabexit takes the audience into a visual world suspended between dream and reality, where imagery becomes an open poetic space shaped by imagination, memory, and the human desire to escape the harshness of reality. Rather than relying on conventional storytelling, the film builds its experience through visual sensation and emotional rhythm, creating a cinematic journey that celebrates the right to dream even in the darkest moments.
The film is constructed through painterly compositions in which light, color, fantasy, and open spaces merge into a deeply symbolic cinematic language. Through this visual approach, Fiabexit transforms into a sensory and emotional experience that moves beyond narrative toward contemplation and feeling.
About the Cinematographer – JAB:
JAB is the artistic identity of the Italian creative duo Lorenzo Giovenga and Giuliano Giacomelli, who combine directing and cinematography within a unified visual and cinematic vision.
The duo became known for their experimental approach to visual storytelling, building cinematic worlds through movement, lighting, symbolic imagery, and unusual spatial compositions that blend realism with fantasy. Since founding JAB in 2022, they have developed a recognizable cinematic style centered around emotionally driven visual experimentation.
In Fiabexit, JAB creates a cinematographic language based on natural light, painterly framing, rhythmic movement, and dense symbolic imagery. Through the careful use of color, atmosphere, and visual texture, the film achieves a dreamlike cinematic identity that earned it the Best Cinematography Award at the Kobani International Film Festival.
