Fattah Issa

Documentary Films Committee

Fattah Issa is a Kurdish-Syrian journalist, field reporter, and media producer from Kobani whose professional journey is closely connected to local journalism, humanitarian storytelling, and documentary-oriented media work emerging from northern Syria. His experience combines field reporting, radio journalism, social documentation, and visual storytelling rooted in everyday human realities and post-war transformation.

He graduated from the Faculty of Media at Damascus University in 2001 and later obtained a Diploma in Educational Qualification from Damascus University in 2003.

Before entering journalism full-time, Issa worked as a teacher in schools in Kobani between 2009 and 2011, a period that deepened his connection to local communities and everyday social realities.

He later transitioned into professional media work as an editor in the electronic journalism department of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) between 2009 and 2011, where he developed his experience in news editing and media production.

His name later became closely associated with Arta FM Radio in Kobani, where he worked between 2015 and 2019 as a correspondent, radio presenter, and media producer, contributing field reports and human-centered radio programs documenting everyday life and social transformation in northern and eastern Syria.

In 2018, he also worked as Editor-in-Chief of Zahrat Al Zaytoun magazine published in Germany, before continuing his journalistic work as a correspondent for North Press Agency in Kobani from 2019 until today.

Throughout his career, Issa produced articles, visual field reports, and documentary-style coverage focusing on Syrian communities, humanitarian realities, displacement, education, and civil life emerging from conflict zones and socially transforming environments.

His journalistic and visual approach is grounded in proximity to people, everyday detail, and realistic human storytelling, combining local media experience with documentary sensibility and socially engaged reporting.

As a member of the Selection & Preliminary Evaluation Committee — Documentary Films Section — at the 5th edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2024, the Taha Karimi Edition, held under the theme “A Journey Through World Cultures” — Fattah Issa contributes a perspective shaped by field journalism, documentary storytelling, and close engagement with real human experiences.
