Jury Chairman

Peshtiwan Abdullah

Peshtiwan Abdullah is an independent Kurdish filmmaker whose cinematic work is rooted in realism and human-centered storytelling. His artistic approach focuses on ordinary human experiences, identity, memory, and the emotional relationship between individuals and their social environments.

Through a restrained visual language and character-driven narratives, Abdullah develops films that pay close attention to silence, atmosphere, and the psychological details of everyday life, often placing human vulnerability and personal memory at the center of the cinematic experience.

Alongside his filmmaking activities, he participated in various cultural and cinematic initiatives connected to independent cinema and visual storytelling, while actively supporting young filmmakers and emerging artistic voices within Kurdish and independent film communities.

His cinematic perspective reflects a strong belief in cinema as a space for human dialogue, cultural memory, and socially engaged visual expression beyond commercial filmmaking structures.

At the 2nd edition of the Kobani International Film Festival 2021, Peshtiwan Abdullah served as Chairman of the Jury Committee, contributing a perspective shaped by independent cinema, realistic storytelling, and human-centered visual narratives.
